Context
Extinction Burst started in 1999 as a way to acquire the skill of perfecting the removal of ink while keeping the paper/cloth of the bill perfectly intact but thin and transparent. Over the years I’ve acquired several hundred bills working on that skill. Meanwhile the culture shift brought about by digital and virtual transactions has made analog currency less and less the means with which things are bought and sold. This piece seems to point to it’s re-evaluation, at least when it is presented in a museum or gallery setting.
