Such a long board to cut. Above is a photo of the resulting 1/8" and 3/16" spruce slices for Extinction Burst. They are cut to test the strength of the grid and problem solve them as containers for the currency sleeves. The horse drawing below is something begun before the "illuminations" commission and previously appeared in one of the paintings destroyed in the DHR fire from July ...

Commissioned by Davis and Louise Riemer. Inspired after locating an artwork on the property of Carl Djerassi of a thin alabaster plate embedded fairly high inside the stump of an enormous redwood tree. Walking inside the tree stump and bathing in the soft glowing light of the alabaster was an unforgettable experience. I tried to capture some of that here. I sourced the ...

The Illuminations project in progress. On the wall is the working mock-up. On the table are a little over 30 polished alabaster panels cut from large alabaster slabs. I spent about two months scraping currency to get the collected dust in the tubes and bags on the table. I'm almost set up to begin inking the panels. Each panel is also treated with a solution of 5% Paraloid B-72 and ...

A Pre-Amp tube kit that I've had on the backburner for years. This came from Australia. The tubes are very old from the mid 1980's. A practice piece and a nice Sunday project to get up on the learning curve for my EleKit Amp and Preamp upcoming. I've learned to read resistor, capacitor and transistor values. The component design and why it works is fascinating. Am wanting to introduce an ...

Working up the DHR Illuminations commission. These are 20 of the 30 or so Currency symbols to be dusted onto thin alabaster panels. Have to keep altering/editing symbol and stone size before committing the symbols to the stone surface. Hope to have this side of the piece finalized in a week or so.. From the 22nd. ...

An odd shape for a Sawdust bed. I didn't want to cut the scrap wood base that I had so I framed it up as it was and filled it with about an inch of sawdust. The sawdust will conform to the uneven surface on the newly re-sawn alabaster to prevent cracking and breaking during the pressure from my sanding and ...

I started this 8 drawer flat file about 2 years ago. Paper storage was the main reason I began to build it but the new DHR commission is the reason for it's completion. It measures 42" x 52" x 29" and is big enough and stout enough to hold the slim alabaster panels that I will create over the next two years. I built it upside down without a plan but enjoyed making it up and problem solving as I ...
